London becomes a magical place at Christmas, and there are few festive attractions more magical to visit than the city's many ice rinks. Here are six of the best:

Natural History Museum Ice Rink

Running until 8 January, the ice rink at the Natural History Museum couldn't be more perfect for families. Set against the spectacular museum building, this rink is divided into two to give children a quieter space to get their bearings in.

At the centre of the rink stands a beautiful Christmas tree, while the trees surrounding the skaters are all kitted out with twinkling fairylights. Take the children for an indulgent hot chocolate at the onsite Cafe Bar to warm up afterwards.

Winter Wonderland

Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland is one of the capital's favourite festive attractions, and it's also home to one of its best ice rinks. Decorated with approximately 100,000 fairylights, this rink surrounds the park's charming Victorian bandstand, and provides plenty of opportunities for more festive fun in the rest of the Wonderland before or after you skate. It is open from 18 November to 2 January.

The London Eye is one of the city's most popular attractions at any time of year, but by visiting in the winter you can enjoy an extra treat - Eyeskate. Located in Jubilee Gardens just a stone's throw from the Eye, this rink provides truly stunning surroundings. You can whizz around on the ice here from 14 November to 3 January.

Winterville is London's newest festive attraction, opening on 2 December and running until 1 January. Like Winter Wonderland, it will offer a mix of Christmas entertainment including Christmas markets, rides and, you've guessed it, an ice rink. Spanning 600 sq m, this rink is open from 10am until late every day, and is great for everyone from families and couples to groups of friends.

Skate at Somerset House

17 November to 15 January, Somerset House will host its annual ice rink - a 900 sq m rink that provides a seriously stunning backdrop. What's particularly fun about this rink is that it offers so much additional entertainment, as well as themed days. For instance, Glad Tidings Tuesdays are perfect if you're seeking the ultimate festive experience, while adults can enjoy a touch of sophistication at the Fortnum's Lodge, which serves champagne, afternoon tea and more.

Westfield London Ice Rink

If you would rather skate indoors than outdoors, pay a visit the Westfield London Ice Rink between 24 November and 8 January. As well as offering somewhere a little warmer to skate, this rink provides all kinds of entertainment, including DJ sets and family fun. And of course, as it's located in the vast Westfield shopping centre, you can get some of your Christmas shopping done while you're here!
